Veteran Nigerian actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, who is famous for playing Papa Ajasco for many years, has announced that he is changing his name.
In a video shared on Instagram, he introduced his new stage name as Bondu Alaska.
This decision comes after he recently said he was struggling financially and had a disagreement with Wale Adenuga, the owner of the Papa Ajasco brand, over how the name can be used.
In the video, he said:
“Good morning Nigerians. My name is Bondu Alaska. The one and only Bondu Alaska.”
He also thanked Nigerians for supporting him and said he is starting a new chapter in his life. He promised not to disappoint his fans.
The actor has now changed his Instagram handle to match his new name and asked fans and brands to connect with him under this identity.
However, many fans are still attached to the name “Papa Ajasco” and find it hard to accept the change.
The name change seems to be connected to rules about using the Papa Ajasco brand.
Meanwhile, Wale Adenuga said the actor’s claim of being broke was not true. He explained that the actor had received benefits over the years, including cars, and was never stopped from doing other jobs outside the show.
