Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has ordered all political appointees who intend to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign by March 31, 2026.
The directive was announced in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu.
It is based on Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, and follows the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable for party primaries.
According to the statement, the order applies to all political appointees planning to participate in party primaries or seek nomination for any elective office. This includes Honourable Commissioners, Advisers, Directors-General, Executive Assistants to the Governor, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, Personal Assistants, and all other political appointees.
Affected officials are expected to submit resignation letters through the Office of the SSG and hand over duties to the most senior career officers in their Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
The Governor’s move aims to prevent conflicts of interest and ensure compliance with electoral laws. The New Media Office of the Governor stressed that non-compliance will disqualify any political appointee from contesting in the 2027 elections.
