Kano state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, on Tuesday, revealed that the names of over 2000 drug dealers are under police watch list in the state.

Briefing journalists at the Bompai police headquarters, Bakori said some of the names of the drug peddlers appeared multiple times.

According to him, police have already gotten tips on how to arrest and prosecute them.

He warned drug dealers and other criminal elements to desist from their unpatriotic acts, or leave the state.

“I am pleased to announce that we have received over 2000 names of suspected drug dealers, with some names appearing multiple times. We are currently verifying these names and will take action soon.

“Using open-source intelligence, we have identified suspected drug dealers and are currently profiling them with a view to taking a decisive action.

“This demonstrates our commitment to leveraging technology and community support to combat crime,” he said.

Mr. Bakori also said that police, in collaboration with Kano state government and sister security agencies, have liberated the state from bandits.

CP Bakori further hinted that in recent times, police have arrested and prosecuted suspects involved in various crimes, including armed robbery, kidnapping, thuggery, drugs dealings and cybercrime.

“While we have made significant progress, we acknowledge that there are still challenges ahead. We will continue to work with the State Government and other stakeholders to address these challenges and ensure that our State remains safe and secure,” he added.

According to him: “Our roadmap for 2026 is yielding tremendous results, and we are committed to maintaining and improving upon this momentum.

“Key strategies include enhanced community policing, intelligence-led policing, capacity building for officers, state-of-the-art cybercrime unit, synergy with other security agencies, public awareness campaigns, and the successful ‘Operation Kukan Kura’ which has contained thuggery and violence in the State.

“In line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu psc(+), NPM, I charge and remind our officers to lead by example, enforce discipline decisively, and uphold the highest ethical and professional standards at all times.”
