Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025-26 season, the forward announced Tuesday in an emotional video message, bringing down the curtain on one of the most remarkable careers in the club’s storied history.

In a post shared on X, Salah confirmed what fans had long feared: the Egyptian king’s reign at Anfield is coming to an end.

“Hello everyone. Unfortunately, the day has come,” Salah said in the video, adding that “This is the first part of my farewell: I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.”

The 33-year-old, who joined from AS Roma in 2017, has established himself as one of the Premier League’s all-time greats.

His 255 goals in 435 appearances place him third on Liverpool’s all-time scoring list, behind only Ian Rush and Roger Hunt.

Salah’s announcement, made with Liverpool still competing for silverware this season, was accompanied by an official statement from the club confirming that the forward had reached an agreement to depart when his contract expires.

In his farewell message, Salah spoke with palpable emotion about the bond he forged with the city and its supporters.

“I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people, would become part of my life,” he said.

“Liverpool, it’s not just a football club. It’s a passion. It’s a history. It’s a spirit. I can’t explain in words to anyone not part of this club.”

The winger arrived from Italy with a reputation to rebuild after a difficult spell at Chelsea. What followed was a period of unprecedented success: two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the FA Cup, two League Cups, and a host of individual accolades including four Premier League Golden Boots.

Salah reserved special gratitude for the supporters who have chanted his name for nearly a decade.

“I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the team-mates, past and present,” he said.

“And to the fans: I don’t have enough words. The support you showed me through the best time of my career and you stood by me in the toughest times. It’s something I will never forget, and something I will take with me always,” he added.

He stated: “Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I always be one of you. This club will always be my home, to me and to my family.”

Liverpool confirmed that Salah had expressed his wish to make the announcement “at the earliest possible opportunity to provide transparency about his future due to his respect and gratitude for” the supporters.

The club’s statement noted that with “plenty still left to play for this season,” Salah remains focused on delivering a strong finish to the campaign, with the full celebration of his legacy to come later in the year when he bids farewell to Anfield.

Salah ended his video message with words: “Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.”
