A devastating road accident involving a runaway trailer in Ibadan, Oyo State, has left several people feared dead and many others injured, triggering panic in one of the city’s busiest commercial corridors.

The incident occurred on Tuesday around the Beere axis, where a trailer descending from the Beere Roundabout reportedly lost control after suffering a suspected brake failure.

Eyewitnesses said the truck had earlier navigated through the Oja’Oba area before spiralling out of control at Beere Junction, ploughing into vehicles, tricycles and pedestrians along the road.

The impact was most severe at the crowded Iso-Osan market, popularly known as Orange Market, where the trailer caused widespread destruction and casualties.

Although the exact number of fatalities remains unclear, early reports indicate that at least three persons were confirmed dead, with fears that the toll could rise as rescue operations continue.

Several injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited in a morgue.

Security agencies, including police and emergency responders, were swiftly deployed to the scene to manage the situation and restore order, as crowds gathered amid the chaos.
