The Police have raised alarm over what they described as the rising incidence of murder in Ebonyi State, describing it as “bad act to mankind”.

The alarm followed arraignment of four suspects for murder cases in the past three weeks, SP Joshua Ukandu, the spokeperson for Ebonyi Police Command said in a statement released in Abakaliki on Thursday.

Ukandu also quoted Ebonyi Commissioner of Police, Mrs Urunwa Okafor as condemning the rising cases of murder.

Okafor noted that the command had in the month of March, charged four persons to court over alleged homicide.

“The suspects include Onyebuchi Eze (m), Eze Nwuke (m), Odinaka Emmanuel Okoh (m), and Uchenna Ota (m) to court for alleged involvement in murder cases.

“These developments are deeply concerning. We express strong dismay over the rising incidence of homicide in the state,” she stated.

She appealed to the people of Ebonyi and residents of the state to refrain from taking the law into their hands and to promptly report grievances to the nearest police station.

The commissioner further emphasised that murder was not only a capital offence but also a grave crime against humanity.

She reaffirmed her open-door policy and urged members of the public to come forward with complaints, assuring them of prompt attention. (NAN)
