Katsina: Items worth over N10m recovered from shoplifter exposed by CCTV

Police nab notorious shoplifter Hadiza Ibrahim after she was caught on CCTV stealing goods worth ₦10.1m at a store in Katsina metropolis.

The Police have explained how a 27-year-old woman identified as Hadiza Ibrahim was arrested after she was caught on Close Circuit Television, CCTV stealing goods worth ₦10.1 million at a store identified as Green House in Katsina metropolis.

Katsina Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Aliyu Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.

According to Abubakar, the store’s Chief Security Officer reported the suspect’s arrest on March 4.

The CSO described Hadiza Ibrahim as a notorious shoplifter operating within the metropolis.

The Katsina Police Command spokesperson said the goods stolen by Hadiza were valued at ₦10,102,000.

“The suspect was captured on CCTV at Green House, where she was seen dishonestly stealing various items from a shop.

“Following analysis of the footage, she was closely monitored, leading to her arrest at the scene,” he said.

He said a search at the suspect’s residence led to recovery of items valued at the stated amount.

Recovered items include 274 pairs of shoes, 37 veils, 67 sportswear sets and 54 children’s outfits.

Others are 123 caps, 315 sets of socks, 45 women’s wrappers, nine handbags, three cartons of spaghetti, 24 perfumes and five cartons of soap.

Additional items include a bag of assorted fashion jewellery and a sack containing various cooking seasonings and spices.

According to him, the items have been identified by owners, while more victims are being traced.

Abubakar said investigations showed the suspect had a history of shoplifting and theft, adding she confessed to the offences.

He confirmed the suspect had been charged to court for prosecution.

He advised shop owners to remain vigilant and adopt measures to secure their businesses against criminal activities. (NAN)
