Liya, who made history as the first female signee of the label owned by Davido in October 2020, parted ways with the record company in 2023.

Nigerian singer Liya has opened up on her decision to leave Davido Music Worldwide, revealing that the move was driven by her desire for personal and professional growth.

Liya, who made history as the first female signee of the label owned by Davido in October 2020, parted ways with the record company in 2023.

Speaking during an interview on Wahala with Josy Anne, the singer disclosed that her time at the label was marked by emotional struggles, including feelings of depression and exhaustion.

“Why did I leave? I just wanted more for myself, as a person and as an artist. It was sad, it was depressing, I was tired, I was sick, but it was a decision that I had to make for myself,” she said.

The singer also addressed public criticism she faced during her time at the label, noting that many people misunderstood her situation and labeled her as unproductive.

“They called me names… people saying she’s lazy, she doesn’t know what she’s doing. They’re just pouring money on her, and she’s not doing anything,” she added.

Liya further revealed that her struggles affected her social media presence, as she was unable to manage her Instagram account personally for over two years, relying instead on her manager to handle posts on her behalf.

Despite the challenges, she expressed gratitude to her manager for his patience and support during the difficult period.

“He was tired, but I’m so glad he understood. He never pushed me or forced me,” she said.\
