The Oyo State Police Command has started an investigation into the death of a teenage boy at the University of Ibadan swimming pool.
In a statement released on Saturday, the police spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the boy’s body has been taken to the mortuary at the General Hospital, Adeoyo, Ibadan.
According to him, the police were informed by the school’s Chief Security Officer that the body of the boy, believed to be about 14 to 15 years old, was found floating in the swimming pool.
When police officers visited the scene, they noticed that the body had already been removed from the water and placed beside the pool. They also saw blood coming from the boy’s mouth and nose, along with small injuries on his nose. Bloodstains were found in a nearby pavilion, and some items believed to belong to the boy, including shoes and a shirt, were discovered close to the pool.
The police said the case is being treated as a suspected murder, and investigations are ongoing to find out what really happened.
They also advised the public to stay calm and avoid spreading false or unconfirmed information while the investigation continues.
