Nollywood actress Toyin Alausa has raised alarm over what she described as “poison” spreading in the industry, amid increasing online attacks and defamation.
Alausa, in a post on Instagram, said she has watched people deliberately tear down others’ reputations for clout and relevance.
“I have watched people drag names, tear down reputations and pour poison into the air, all for clicks,” she said.
The actress lamented that many individuals now spread falsehoods and damaging narratives because controversy generates attention.
According to her, several talented people have been targeted by strangers who choose cruelty over truth.
She added that some deliberately provoke others just to get reactions they can monetise on social media.
“People will say the most vile things, not because they know the truth, but because desperation has no conscience,” she said.
Alausa, however, urged victims to remain calm and dignified despite the attacks.
“Your silence is not weakness. Your dignity is your power,” she said.
She also advised those engaging in online hate to change, warning that such behaviour is ultimately empty.
