KWANKWASO

Quick Read

The development confirms earlier indications of his defection following his resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), which he announced on Sunday.

Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), receiving his membership card on Monday in Kano.

The development confirms earlier indications of his defection following his resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), which he announced on Sunday.

Kwankwaso’s move comes amid a broader political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Earlier in the day, top leaders of the ADC stormed Kano State ahead of his formal defection. The high-powered delegation included the party’s National Chairman and former Senate President, David Mark; former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal; former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Senator Dino Melaye; and former APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, among others.

The delegation arrived at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, where they were received by the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo.

Kwankwaso is expected to be joined in the ADC by key allies, including Senator Rufa’i Hanga and the Kano State Chairman of the NNPP, Hashim Dungurawa.

In his resignation statement from the NNPP, Kwankwaso described the decision as difficult but necessary, citing the evolving political landscape and the need for a new platform.
