‘I hate you’, Skales explodes at Bashir Ahmad over American preacher

Skales and Bashir Ahmad

“Are people dying or not?… you and the former president were part of Nigeria’s problem… I hate you… I wish I could see you right now and slap your face,” the singer wrote.

A heated war of words has erupted between Nigerian singer, Skales, and former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, over the activities of an American missionary operating in parts of the country.

The controversy began after Ahmad called on authorities to investigate Alex Barbir, a foreign national who has been active in communities affected by violence in states such as Benue and Plateau.

In a post on X, Ahmad alleged that the American was “spreading hate” and attempting to incite unrest, urging security agencies to take action.

“This is a strong call on the relevant authorities to urgently look into the activities of this young foreigner… to safeguard peace, unity and public order,” he wrote.

In a follow-up post, Ahmad warned Nigerians against being influenced by what he described as dangerous rhetoric, suggesting the foreigner would not bear the consequences if the country descends into chaos.

However, Barbir is known in some quarters for his humanitarian work, including rebuilding homes, supporting displaced persons and providing basic infrastructure in communities affected by attacks. His activities, particularly among Christian communities, have also drawn attention for his vocal stance on killings and calls for justice.

While supporters view him as a humanitarian, critics have questioned his growing influence and presence in conflict-prone areas, raising concerns about his intentions and the broader implications of his advocacy.

Reacting angrily to Ahmad’s remarks, Skales launched a series of scathing attacks, accusing the former aide and the administration of late Muhammadu Buhari of failing to address insecurity in the country.

“Are people dying or not?… you and the former president were part of Nigeria’s problem… I hate you… I wish I could see you right now and slap your face,” the singer wrote.

He went further to label Ahmad a “terrorist sympathiser,” expressing frustration over continued violence and loss of lives.

“There’s a lot of chaos in Nigeria… people are suffering… I pray what’s happening also happens to your family,” he added.
