The high-powered delegation includes the ADC National Chairman and former Senate President, David Mark; former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal; former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Senator Dino Melaye; and former APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, among others.

Top leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday arrived in Kano State ahead of the expected defection of former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The high-powered delegation includes the ADC National Chairman and former Senate President, David Mark; former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal; former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Senator Dino Melaye; and former APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, among others.

The team landed at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, where they were received by the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo.

Kwankwaso is expected to join the ADC alongside key allies, including Senator Rufa’i Hanga and the Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Hashim Dungurawa.

The development follows Kwankwaso’s resignation from the NNPP, which he announced on Sunday, citing the need for political realignment ahead of future electoral contests.

“I wish to formally announce my resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party with immediate effect,” he said in a statement.

The former presidential candidate described the decision as difficult but necessary in view of the evolving political landscape.

“Considering the current trajectory of the nation’s political landscape, which calls for strategic realignment, I have found it necessary to identify with another political platform,” he added.

Kwankwaso also expressed appreciation to the NNPP leadership, including its National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, as well as members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, for their support.
