The regulator added that it will continue to ensure telecom companies improve their networks, expand capacity, and meet growing demand.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed telecom companies to compensate customers who experience poor network service.

This was made known in a statement by the Commission’s Head of Public Affairs, Nnenna Ukoha.

The NCC said the move is to protect consumers and ensure they do not suffer when network providers fail to deliver good service.

According to the Commission, affected users will receive compensation in the form of airtime. This will apply in areas where network quality falls below the required standards.

The NCC explained that telecom companies must pay users when they fail to meet set service targets. The amount of airtime given will depend on how much a user normally spends and how long they were affected in areas with poor service.

The Commission also directed tower companies, which provide telecom infrastructure like masts, to use fines imposed on them to improve their facilities.

The NCC said this policy is part of efforts to put customers first in Nigeria’s telecom sector. It noted that poor network service affects business activities, communication, and public trust.

The regulator added that it will continue to ensure telecom companies improve their networks, expand capacity, and meet growing demand.

In recent years, many Nigerians have complained about poor network quality, including dropped calls and slow internet speeds.

To address this, the NCC introduced stricter service rules in 2024, with penalties for companies that fail to meet standards.
