The Federal Government of Nigeria has secured diplomatic clearance from 10 countries for the posting of its ambassador-designates, marking a key step in strengthening the nation’s foreign relations and international representation.

The countries that have granted approval include the United Kingdom, Senegal, Qatar, Ireland, France, United States of America, Benin Republic, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, and Djibouti.

This development indicates progress in Nigeria’s ongoing diplomatic engagements, as the issuance of agrément (formal consent by host countries) is a necessary step before ambassadors can officially assume duty in their respective countries. Government sources noted that discussions with other nations are still ongoing, with approvals expected in due course.

According to a statement released by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, preparations are underway for the formal induction of the envoys.

He explained that the date for the ceremony will be announced once it is finalized and receives approval from the Presidency.

The spokesperson further emphasized that the induction will mark the official commencement of the ambassadors’ assignments, after which they will be deployed to their respective missions to represent Nigeria’s interests abroad, promote bilateral relations, and facilitate economic and cultural cooperation.

Meanwhile, the development comes amid speculation that Germany rejected the nomination of former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode.

However, Fani-Kayode has dismissed the claim, describing it as “fake news” and insisting that no such rejection has been communicated to him.

The Federal Government has yet to issue an official clarification regarding the reports involving Germany, but officials maintain that the ambassadorial process is ongoing and will be concluded once all necessary diplomatic procedures are completed.
