Kwankwaso’s move to ADC could change the game – Abati
Quick Read
Kwankwaso wants to be president, but will he get the ADC ticket? Will he become a running mate to someone else?
Veteran journalist and former presidential aide, Reuben Abati, has said that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could change the opposition scene ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on The Morning Show on Arise Television, Abati explained that Kwankwaso, along with his supporters from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has strengthened the ADC and made it a platform for major opposition figures.
He highlighted the importance of Kano State in presidential elections, noting its 44 local government areas and large number of voters. He also mentioned Rivers and Lagos as key battlegrounds.
Abati said Kwankwaso, a leading political figure in Kano, could have a big impact on the 2027 race. However, he raised questions about how things will play out within the ADC, especially regarding the presidential ticket.
“Dr. Kwankwaso has joined the ADC with his NNPP supporters. This has strengthened the party and brought together frontline opposition figures like Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Atiku Abubakar,” Abati said.
He added, “Kano is crucial in elections, with 44 local governments and many voters. Some states are must-win for anyone aiming to be president, including Kano, Rivers, and Lagos.

There are talks about ‘PitaKwa’ 2027, suggesting he could run with Peter Obi.
What will this mean for Atiku Abubakar? These are just the early stages, and the drama is only beginning.”
