The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has clarified that he has not endorsed any candidate for future political positions in Rivers State.

Wike emphasized that decisions on endorsements for elections at the state or local level remain the responsibility of party elders and should not be influenced by individuals.

Speaking at his official residence in Life Camp, Abuja, on Monday night, Wike addressed a joint gathering of stakeholders from both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Rivers State.

He cautioned against rushing to make endorsements or letting personal political ambitions create divisions within the group.

Wike stressed that the current political strength of the group is built on unity, cooperation, and commitment, rather than on financial influence.

He warned that external forces are actively seeking to create divisions among the stakeholders because they are concerned about the group’s successful collaboration.

“If we were not working together, if we were not united, it would be difficult. People are not happy that we are working together, so they must find anything to make sure we are divided,” he said.

The minister also expressed disappointment with certain individuals who, after benefiting from appointments obtained through the group’s influence, have turned around to criticize the leadership.

He described such behavior as a failure of character and warned that attempts to displace others through deceit or personal scheming would not succeed.

“Woe be unto the person that we have given an appointment [who] goes back to castigate,” Wike stated. He noted that some who once sought his mentorship now find it difficult to look him in the eye because of their actions.

Regarding upcoming elections, Wike dismissed rumors that he had privately endorsed candidates for local offices.

He reiterated that his public and private positions are consistent and transparent.

He said the only official endorsement recognized by the group is for the presidency, where they support President Bola Tinubu.

Wike also commended council chairmen, Rivers State elders, and leaders of both political parties for effectively coordinating the gathering of delegates.

He noted that the lack of complaints regarding the inclusion of members in the process demonstrates the success of the meeting and reflects the commitment of stakeholders to work together for the benefit of the state.

By stressing transparency, unity, and patience, Wike made it clear that decisions on endorsements will continue to be guided by party elders and collective discussion rather than individual preferences, ensuring fairness and stability within the political landscape of Rivers State.
