Police in Kano have bursted tricycle theft syndicate, recovering eight stolen tricycles from the criminals.
The Kano Police Command spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, gave the details, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
According to him, on March 26, 2026, police operatives attached to Kwakwachi Police Division, while on intelligence-led surveillance patrol along Airport Road, Kano, intercepted Abubakar Sidi, of Kunkumi Village, Kaduna State, riding a tricycle with Reg. NSR 85 WD, Karota No. KMC 1084.
The suspect failed to provide a satisfactory account of the tricycle, leading to his transfer to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), on the directives of the Commissioner of Police for further investigation.
Discreet investigation conducted revealed that the suspect had deceived the tricycle owner at Emir Palace Road Kano and conspired with his syndicate members to rob the tricycle.
Two accomplices, Abba Babura and Babangida Haruna, were subsequently arrested, and seven additional tricycles robbed by the suspects and sold in Babura, Jigawa state, were recovered.
Kiyawa further stated that: “The Kano State Police Command is appealing to members of the public, especially tricycle operators, to be vigilant and cautious when interacting with passengers.
” We advise against accepting drinks or gifts from strangers and urge anyone with information on suspicious activities to report to the authorities.
“The Command is also calling on individuals whose tricycles were stolen using similar modus operandi to check the attached pictures and report to the PPRO Office, Bompai Police Headquarters Kano, or contact the Investigation Police Officer (IPO) via 07010161372.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori has commended the efforts of the police team involved in the operation and assured the public of continued efforts to combat crime and ensure public safety.”
