The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has said the Temporary Terminal (T3) of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, was briefly shut down on Wednesday following an electrical spark that triggered smoke emission within the facility.

FAAN said the incident occurred at about 14:05 hours in an operational office within the terminal.

According to the authority, the development necessitated the temporary closure of the terminal as a precautionary measure, while emergency response teams moved swiftly to contain the situation.

“The Temporary Terminal (T3) of MMIA was briefly shut down following an electrical spark in an operational office, which resulted in smoke emission at about 14:05 hours,” FAAN said.

The agency added that personnel of the Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) responded promptly, bringing the situation under control.

FAAN disclosed that ongoing electrical maintenance is being carried out to ensure all systems are functioning optimally ahead of the terminal’s reopening.

“All flights that currently operate from Terminal 3 have been diverted to Terminal 2. Passengers are hereby advised accordingly,” the authority stated.

It assured the travelling public that the incident had been fully contained, stressing that safety remains its top priority.
