President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday received Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, in audience at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as part of ongoing consultations over the security situation in the state.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of recent deadly attacks in Plateau, which have heightened concerns over insecurity and prompted federal intervention.

Officials said the engagement formed part of efforts by the presidency to assess the situation on the ground and chart a coordinated response aimed at restoring peace and stability in the state.

The Federal Government had earlier indicated that the President was closely monitoring developments in Plateau and had initiated high-level security engagements, including consultations with security chiefs and state authorities.

Governor Mutfwang’s visit is believed to have focused on reviewing the security architecture in the state, strengthening collaboration between federal and state agencies, and exploring immediate and long-term solutions to recurring violence.

Plateau State, historically described as the “Home of Peace and Tourism,” has in recent years faced persistent security challenges, including communal clashes and attacks on rural communities.

The meeting underscores the administration’s renewed push to stabilise flashpoints across the country, particularly in the North-Central region, where insecurity continues to pose threats to lives, livelihoods and agricultural productivity.

The outcome of the meeting is expected to shape further federal actions, including possible security reinforcements and policy measures aimed at preventing future attacks.

The presidency has repeatedly assured Nigerians of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while working with sub-national governments to address the root causes of insecurity.
