Rapper Gucci Mane was allegedly kidnapped and robbed in January by fellow rappers Pooh Shiesty (Lontrell Williams Jr.) and Big30 (Rodney Wright Jr.), along with seven other accomplices, during a music industry meeting at a Dallas recording studio, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Federal prosecutors say the group lured Gucci Mane and other music industry professionals to the studio under the pretense of a business discussion tied to Pooh Shiesty’s contract with Gucci Mane’s 1017 Records, PitchFork disclosed.
Once inside, the suspects allegedly brandished firearms, forced the victims to sign contract-related documents at gunpoint, and stole luxury items, including watches, jewelry, and cash.
The incident occurred on January 10, 2026, and took place while Pooh Shiesty was reportedly on home confinement following a prior federal firearms conviction. Eight of the nine suspects have since been arrested in coordinated operations across Dallas, Memphis, and Nashville, with one remaining at large.
“The victims in this case came to Dallas to conduct legitimate business and were met with firearms and violence,” said Ryan Raybould, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas.
While the DOJ complaint describes the victims as “music industry professionals,” media reports from TMZ and E! Online identify Gucci Mane as one of those allegedly targeted, confirming the high-profile nature of the case.
The alleged kidnapping has drawn attention to the risks of criminal escalation in the music industry, particularly in disputes involving contracts and high-value labels.
Prosecutors have not yet disclosed trial dates, but if convicted, the defendants could face serious federal prison sentences, including life imprisonment for kidnapping.
