The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has invited one Tosin who accused its officials of extortimg I N100,000 from some motorists on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in a viral video

The Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr Taofiq Adebayo, made this known in a statement on Saturday in Lagos.

According to him, the lady was invited as part of the investigations into the claim of bribery in the viral video.

“The attention of LASTMA has been drawn to a publication circulating on Facebook wherein an individual identified as Tosin alleged that, on an unspecified Monday, LASTMA officers purportedly arrested commercial buses along the coastal road.

“It said that the officers compelled drivers to pay the sum of ₦100,000 before their vehicles were released.

“LASTMA views such an allegation with utmost seriousness, as it remains a disciplined, professional and ethically-guided government institution that does not, under any circumstances, condone misconduct, abuse of office or extortion by any of its personnel,” Adebayo said.

He said that the authority had initiated a thorough and impartial investigation into the allegation.

He said that any officer found culpable would face the full wrath of the law in strict accordance with established rules, regulations and disciplinary procedures governing the organisation.

“In furtherance of this investigation, the authority hereby extends an open invitation to the individual identified as Tosin to appear at the Office of the General Manager, LASTMA Headquarters, Oshodi.

“He should present concrete evidence to substantiate his claims, as the burden of proof lies squarely upon he who makes an allegation.

“LASTMA reiterates its unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability and the highest standards of public service.

“The authority remains dedicated to fostering public trust and ensuring that the conduct of its officers consistently reflects the core values of integrity, discipline and professionalism,” he said.

He advised the public to report any perceived misconduct of LASTMA officers through the appropriate and verified channels.

He gave the assurance that LASTMA remained resolute in its pursuit of a traffic management system anchored on fairness, orderliness and respect for the rights of all road users. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
