British heavyweight Derek Chisora went out with a bang but fell short against former WBC champion Deontay Wilder in the final fight of his professional career at a raucous O2 Arena in London.
In his 50th professional bout, the 42-year-old ‘Del Boy’ showed remarkable resilience, recovering from a punishing eighth round to take Wilder to the distance in what many are calling a Fight of the Year contender.
Wilder, known as the ‘Bronze Bomber,’ imposed his power early, nearly turning Chisora’s farewell into a nightmare with a one-sided start. Despite this, Chisora rallied spectacularly in the fourth round and continued to battle through multiple challenges, earning roaring applause from the home crowd throughout the fight.

Judges awarded Wilder a split-decision victory with scores of 115-111, 112-115, and 115-113, allowing him to reclaim a position among the top contenders in the heavyweight division.
Chisora’s farewell also included touching moments outside the ring. Staying true to his “man of the people” persona, he rode the London Underground to the arena and was greeted by fellow heavyweight Anthony Joshua, who made a surprise first public appearance since a car crash in December that claimed two of his close friends.
The fight featured multiple knockdowns and near knockdowns, thrilling the crowd with wild exchanges, uppercuts, and swinging hooks. Chisora’s defiance in the face of Wilder’s power, particularly in the later rounds, earned him a hero’s reception for his final bow in professional boxing.
Though the victory went to Wilder, Chisora’s performance was a fitting tribute to his storied career — a fighter who combined skill, courage, and resilience, leaving the heavyweight division on a high note.
