A compressed natural gas (CNG) bus exploded early Sunday morning at Mando Motor Park in Kaduna State, damaging at least two other vehicles.
A garage worker, Abdulkadir Abdullahi, said the incident happened around 4:00 a.m.
He explained that the explosion came from a CNG-powered bus, which affected two nearby luxury buses belonging to a transport company. The damaged vehicles have since been removed from the park.
Fortunately, no one was injured and no lives were lost because there were no passengers in the vehicle at the time. However, the explosion caused panic among people in the area.
Abdullahi dismissed rumors that the explosion was caused by a bomb, saying it was only a gas-related incident.
The Kaduna State Police Command also confirmed that the explosion was not a bomb blast. According to the police spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, the incident happened around 3:00 a.m. at Silver Luxury Travel, a company that operates gas-powered vehicles at the park.
Police said the loud sound raised alarm, and officers were quickly sent to the scene. Initial findings showed that the explosion was caused by a gas-powered bus whose tank was overfilled.
The police added that the affected vehicles have been removed, the area has been secured, and normal activities have resumed at the motor park.
The Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, has ordered a full investigation to find out the exact cause and prevent similar incidents in the future. The Police Bomb Disposal Unit was also sent to the scene as a precaution.
Residents have been advised to confirm information before sharing it, especially on security matters, to avoid unnecessary panic.
