The Nigerian DJ Association (NDJ) has temporarily banned songs by Burna Boy from being played by DJs nationwide following reports of a physical altercation between the Afrobeats star and DJ Tunez at a private event in Lagos.
The statement, issued on the NDJ’s official Instagram account, calls on DJs to uphold professionalism, tolerance, and respect within the entertainment community.
According to the NDJ, videos circulating on social media showed an alleged confrontation between Burna Boy and DJ Tunez at Obi’s residence. Some online posts claimed that DJ Tunez was trampled during the incident, though these reports have not been independently verified.
The NDJ said it is conducting a full investigation into the matter.
The association’s statement emphasized the importance of equality and mutual respect among DJs and artists, noting:
“No one is born hating another because of the skin colour, religion, background, or gender. People simply learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can also be taught to love… Here at NigerianDJ, we put all our DJs first, standing firm on ‘ALL DJs are EQUAL,’ offering transparent and personal service to help our DJs and clients achieve their goals, both at home 🇳🇬 and in the diaspora 🌎.”
The NDJ stressed that discrimination, prejudice, or mistreatment within the DJ community is unacceptable and urged all DJs to ensure freedom, equality, and respect in their professional engagements.
In a controversial move, the NDJ declared:
“🚨 Burna Boy Music is temporarily out of any of our DJs’ playlists until further notice. Our team will carry out a proper investigation on last night’s incident involving one of our own, DJ Tunez. We urge DJs in Nigeria to be vigilant and respectful toward any individual artist at their events. Respect among DJs is essential.”
The NDJ also linked the incident to broader concerns about professionalism in the music and entertainment industry, calling for tolerance and adherence to ethical standards.
This development comes amid heightened scrutiny of artist-DJ relations in Nigeria, where social media amplifies conflicts and controversial incidents often go viral within hours.
Meanwhile, no official response has yet been received from Burna Boy’s team, and the NDJ did not provide a timeline for the conclusion of its investigation.
The NDJ describes itself as the governing body for DJs in Nigeria, responsible for managing DJ operations, providing professional guidance, and ensuring the equitable treatment of DJs across the country.
