The Lagos State Government has announced temporary traffic adjustments across key parts of the city ahead of a series of commissioning events scheduled for April 8 and 9, 2026.
President Bola Tinubu, who is already in Lagos will commission the iconic projects in the state for the two days.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said partial road closures would be enforced in selected corridors to ensure safety and the smooth execution of the ceremonies.
He stated that on Wednesday, April 8, the commissioning of the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., with traffic expected to be affected around Opebi-Allen, Ikeja and Ojota. According to him, motorists using the corridor during the period should consider alternative routes to avoid delays and congestion.
Osiyemi added that activities would continue on Thursday, April 9, with two separate events expected to impact traffic flow. The first, scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., is the commissioning of the Tolu Schools Complex, which will affect vehicular movement within Olodi Apapa and Ajegunle.
He advised motorists in the affected areas to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra travel time.
He further disclosed that another event would hold later in the day between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. around Eko Hotel and Victoria Island, warning that traffic in the Victoria Island corridor would likely be heavy during the period.
The commissioner said officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority would be deployed to all affected locations to regulate vehicular movement and assist road users.
He urged motorists to cooperate with traffic personnel and comply with all directives to ease movement across the city.
Osiyemi appealed for patience and understanding from residents, noting that the temporary inconvenience was necessary to facilitate the successful commissioning of critical infrastructure projects.
