President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday commissioned a set of major infrastructure projects in Lagos, describing them as critical investments aimed at boosting mobility, governance efficiency and economic growth in Nigeria’s commercial hub.

The President, who was represented at the ceremony by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, performed the inauguration at the newly built Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex in Alausa.

The projects unveiled include the Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos State Geographical Information System (LAGIS) Building, and the Multi-Agency Administrative Complex.

Speaking on behalf of the President, Akpabio said the projects reflect a deliberate commitment to delivering tangible development that could be felt by citizens, noting that infrastructure remains central to national growth.

He described the Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge as a strategic intervention to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity across key parts of Lagos, stressing that enhanced mobility would translate into increased productivity, business expansion and improved quality of life.

“The bridge is more than a road; it is a bridge to opportunity. When movement improves, productivity improves. When time is saved, businesses grow,” he said.

Akpabio added that the LAGIS Building represents a shift towards a modern, data-driven system of land administration designed to promote transparency, strengthen property rights and attract investment.

He further noted that the administrative complex would enhance coordination among government agencies and improve service delivery, describing it as a vital step towards building an efficient and responsive public service.

The Senate President said the projects aligned with the Federal Government’s broader vision of a digitally enabled and economically strong Nigeria, driven by infrastructure development and institutional reforms.

He commended Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for disciplined financial management and a strong focus on results-oriented governance, while reaffirming the National Assembly’s support for the Tinubu administration.

Also speaking, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the projects as strategic interventions aimed at improving mobility, governance efficiency and urban planning in Africa’s largest city.

The governor said the projects reflect his administration’s commitment to delivering practical solutions that directly impact the daily lives of residents, noting that with about 416 days left in office, his government remains focused on closing critical infrastructure gaps.

He credited Tinubu’s tenure as former governor for laying the foundation of modern Lagos, describing the President’s involvement in the commissioning as symbolic of continuity in governance.

Providing details on the Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge, Sanwo-Olu said the 5.04-kilometre corridor would ease congestion along the Ikeja–Maryland–Ojota axis by creating an alternative route linking Opebi/Allen to Ikorodu Road through Odo-Iya-Alaro and Mende.

He added that the project incorporates modern engineering solutions suited to the swampy terrain, including walkways, bicycle lanes, solar-powered street lighting and an integrated stormwater management system to tackle flooding.

On the LAGIS Building, the governor said the facility marks a transition to a fully digital land administration system that will strengthen property rights and improve the ease of doing business in the state.

He explained that the Multi-Agency Administrative Complex, named after President Tinubu, would enhance inter-agency coordination, improve service delivery and provide a conducive working environment for public servants.

Sanwo-Olu said the naming of the complex recognised Tinubu’s enduring contributions to institutional development in Lagos.

He also appreciated the Federal Government’s support, citing ongoing infrastructure upgrades such as the coastal highway, improvements at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, and developments at the Apapa and Tin Can Island ports.

The governor assured residents that his administration would sustain infrastructure investments in the remaining months of its tenure, with a focus on improving quality of life and strengthening public institutions.

The commissioning marks the beginning of a series of project inaugurations scheduled over two days, as the Lagos State Government showcases achievements under its THEMES+ development agenda.
