The organizers of a popular London music festival, Wireless Festival, have announced the cancelation of the three-day event, shortly after the headliner, Kanye West, was banned from entering the United Kingdom.
Festival Republic, the firm responsible for organising the Wireless Festival, reacted to the ban announced on Tuesday by Kier Starmer. They revealed that they will not be proceeding with the festival due to the ban, adding that they plan to issue refunds for the tickets bought.
”Wireless Festival is cancelled and refunds will be issued to all ticket holders. Antisemitism in all its forms is abhorrent, and we recognise the real and personal impact these issues have had. Kanye West had also expressed his regrets over his offensive remarks towards the Jewish community and other affected groups. He noted that he plans to make amends through not just his words but his actions.
”I would be grateful for the opportunity to meet with members of the Jewish community in the UK in person, to listen. I know words aren’t enough – I’ll have to show change through my actions. If you’re open, I’m here,” he stated.
