Passenger kills motorcyclist while attempting to snatch motorcycle in Ogun

A 27-year-old man identified as Chidi Ebere has been arrested for killing Sunday Ogbu, a 36-year-old a commercial motorcyclist during an attempt to snatch his motorcycle in Igbesa area of Ogun State.

Oluseyi Babaseyi, the spokesperson of Ogun Police Command announced this in a statement on Thursday.

According to the statement, Ebere had at about 7 a.m. on Wednesday, 8th April 2026 boarded a motorcycle operated by Ogbu and later attacked him in an attempt to snatch the motorcycle.

The Police spokesperson said the attempt to snatch the motorcycle resulted in a violent struggle with the suspect using a knife to attack the motorcyclist.

“A witness at the scene raised the alarm, prompting police to rush to the scene. The victim was rescued and taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

“The suspect was apprehended immediately, while the motorcycle and the knife used in the attack were recovered as exhibits. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for thorough investigation and prosecution,” the Ogun Police Command spokesperson said.

He quoted that state Commissioner of Police CP Bode Ojajuni as condemning the act and assuring that justice will be served.

CP Ojajuni also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.
