Unity Cup: Nigeria to battle Zimbabwe in first match
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that Nigeria will begin their title defence at the 2026 Unity Cup against Zimbabwe.
The tournament, which involves four countries, will take place in England from May 26 to May 30. It is part of an annual multicultural event held in South London.
Alongside Nigeria and Zimbabwe, the other teams competing are Jamaica and India.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles, who have won all three previous editions of the tournament, will face Zimbabwe in the first semi-final on May 26. The second semi-final will be played between Jamaica and India on May 27.
The final match will take place on May 30, and all games will be played at The Valley stadium, home of Charlton Athletic Football Club.
NFF President Ibrahim Gusau said the team is ready to defend their title and expects a strong competition. He added that the Super Eagles will not underestimate Zimbabwe, Jamaica, or India.
He also said the tournament gives the team another chance to prove themselves, especially after missing out on qualification for the last three FIFA World Cup tournaments.
Fixtures:
Semi-final 1: Nigeria vs Zimbabwe – May 26
Semi-final 2: Jamaica vs India – May 27
Final: Winners of both semi-finals – May 30
