In a dominant display of clinical finishing and defensive solidity, West Ham United brushed aside Wolverhampton Wanderers with a resounding 4-0 victory on Friday night.

The result, which saw Konstantinos Mavropanos bag a brace and Taty Castellanos find his scoring touch, leaves Rob Edwards’ Wolves side searching for answers after a second-half collapse.

The match began with Wolves showing early intent. In the 4th minute, Andre came agonizingly close to an opener, flashing a shot just over the bar.

The visitors continued to threaten through the crossing of Hugo Bueno, but West Ham’s backline, led by the towering Mavropanos, held firm.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 42nd minute. Jarrod Bowen, who was a constant menace throughout the evening, delivered a signature lofted cross into the heart of the Wolves penalty area. Mavropanos rose highest, glancing a header into the left corner to give the Hammers a deserved lead going into the interval.

While the first half was a tightly contested affair, the second half belonged entirely to West Ham. Wolves almost clawed their way back in the 54th minute when Angel Gomes struck the woodwork with a brilliant free-kick, but that was as close as the visitors would get.

West Ham responded by stepping on the throat of the game. In the 66th minute, a slick passing move orchestrated by Pablo found Castellanos inside the area, who rifled a low shot into the bottom corner.

Just two minutes later, Castellanos doubled his tally. Bowen turned provider again, slipping a delicate pass to the Argentine on the edge of the box; Castellanos made no mistake, curling a beautiful effort into the side netting for 3-0.

The Hammers weren’t finished. In the 83rd minute, Mavropanos completed his unlikely brace. Following a corner, the Greek international found space in a crowded box to smash a low finish into the bottom left corner, putting the final exclamation point on a dominant performance.

Substitute Adama Traore nearly added a fifth against his former club late on, but his effort whistled inches wide.
