Vice President Kashim Shettima on Saturday travelled to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, to extend condolences on behalf of President Bola Tinubu following a recent deadly attack on Nigerian Army personnel in Benisheikh.
The condolence visit, which also included the Borno State Government, comes after coordinated militant assaults targeted military positions, resulting in the loss of several soldiers, including senior officers.
During the engagement, Shettima paid tribute to the fallen troops, emphasising the profound human cost of national security.
“These men wore the uniform for all of us,” he said, adding that “They stood to protect our communities, our families, and the future of our children. Their courage reminds us that peace and security often come at a very heavy cost.”
The Vice President acknowledged the relentless sacrifices of the Nigerian Armed Forces in the fight against insurgency in the North East and reassured both the military and residents of Borno of the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment.
He stressed that sustained operational support will continue and that criminals and insurgents will find no safe haven under the Tinubu administration.
The visit underscores the federal government’s hands-on approach to security challenges in the region, where Borno has long borne the brunt of Boko Haram and ISWAP activities.
By personally conveying presidential condolences, Shettima sought to boost morale among troops and signal solidarity with communities still grappling with the impact of violence.
