Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, have denied reports that there is a plan to remove the monarch from his position. They described the claim as false and without any basis.

Both leaders spoke through their media aides on Sunday, rejecting the allegation and criticising former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, who made the claim.

Fayose had posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account that Makinde was planning to remove Ladoja as Olubadan.

He also said the monarch might be questioned for not attending the ceremony where High Chief Sharafadeen Ali was made an Oba in Ibadan last week.

In response, the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, said the government has never thought about or discussed such an action.

He added that Nigerians should be careful about what information they believe, especially when it comes from certain sources. According to him, the claim is baseless and should be ignored.

Oyelade also said that political desperation often leads to the spread of false information, which can harm democracy.

Similarly, Ladoja’s media aide, Adeola Oloko, said Fayose’s claim is just a rumour.

He explained that there is no conflict between Governor Makinde and the Olubadan that would justify such a claim.

He added that it would be unfortunate if anyone takes the rumour seriously, as there is no disagreement between the two leaders.
