Activist Mahdi Shehu has called on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to resign, accusing him of bias and misconduct.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Shehu said the INEC chairman’s actions were damaging public trust in the electoral body. He also warned that if nothing is done, confidence in the commission may continue to fall.
He claimed that President Bola Tinubu and others are not treating the situation with the seriousness it deserves, and criticized the president for not speaking out on calls for the chairman’s removal.
Shehu also referred to controversy around the INEC chairman’s social media activity, including claims about his X account and questions about his past political expressions. He said the explanations given by the chairman were not convincing.
