Turkey has accused Israel of trying to present it as a new enemy amid rising tensions between the two countries.
Turkey’s Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, said Israel “cannot live without an enemy” and is now shifting its focus toward Turkey. He made this statement during an interview with a state news agency.
Relations between the two countries have worsened since the war in Gaza began after the October 7 Hamas attack.
The situation became more tense over the weekend when Turkey’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, warned U.S. President Donald Trump about possible actions that could disrupt a proposed ceasefire involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Meanwhile, Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said Israel would continue to stand against Iran and its allies.
Fidan also claimed that not only the Israeli government but some opposition figures are supporting the idea of treating Turkey as an enemy.
He described this as a new and concerning strategy in Israel’s approach to foreign relations.
