The Federal Government has started accepting applications for the second group (cohort 2) of its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme. Participants will receive a monthly stipend of N22,500.

This was announced in a statement by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education.

The programme is designed to give young Nigerians practical skills that can help them find jobs, start businesses, and contribute to the economy.

According to the Ministry, applications opened on April 13, 2026. Interested Nigerians can apply through the official TVET portal.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the programme is meant to equip youths with skills needed in today’s job market and support long-term economic growth.

The Ministry of Education will also work with the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Tourism to include training in creative and cultural industries.

The training will last for either six months or one year and will take place in accredited centres across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Participants will be trained in different fields such as construction, ICT, automotive work, creative media, agriculture, fashion, cosmetology, tourism, catering, and leatherwork.

Trainees must attend regularly, as attendance will be tracked using biometric systems. Only those who meet attendance requirements will receive the stipend.

Applicants must provide their National Identification Number (NIN) and Bank Verification Number (BVN) during registration.

Successful participants will receive a nationally recognised certificate after completing the programme.

The government said this initiative will help create more job opportunities and boost Nigeria’s workforce.

Earlier, in December 2025, the government released N4.7 billion to support trainees and training centres under the programme.

The TVET programme focuses mainly on practical training (80%) and less on classroom learning (20%). It also includes mentorship from experienced artisans in technical colleges.

The Ministry reported strong interest in the programme, with over 90,000 applications submitted shortly after the portal opened last year.
