AFCON 2025: Appeal Court confirms Jail terms for Senegalese fans in Morocco

Quick Read

A recent comment from the Nigerian Presidency has sparked conversation online after officials questioned why a globally celebrated Nigerian song failed to receive one of music’s biggest honours

A court in Rabat has confirmed the prison sentences given to a group of Senegalese football supporters, bringing the legal case to a final conclusion.

The decision by the appeal court supports the earlier ruling made by a lower court, meaning the punishments will remain as originally announced.

According to the judgment, nine of the fans will serve one-year prison sentences. Another six supporters were handed six-month jail terms, while three others received shorter sentences of three months.

In addition to the prison terms, the court also upheld the fines that were imposed during the initial trial, with no changes made.

Despite the ruling, there is some relief for a few of the convicted supporters. Three of those who were given three-month sentences are expected to be released this Saturday, as they have already completed their jail terms while the legal process was ongoing.

The appeal court’s decision effectively brings the case to an end, as it reaffirmed the earlier judgment without any reductions or adjustments.

This means there are no further legal steps expected in the matter, and all those affected will now serve their respective sentences as ordered by the court.
