The first match of the tournament will be played in Mexico City, where host nation Mexico will face South Africa on June 11. Other teams in the group include the Czech Republic and South Korea.

Nigerian football supporters are planning to support African teams at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the tournament.

The Nigeria Football Supporters Club has joined forces with supporter groups from Ghana and South Africa to cheer for African teams in North America.

Vincent Okumagba, chairman of the Unified Nigerian Supporters Club, is already in Canada preparing for Ghana’s matches.

Ghana will be playing against Panama, England, and Croatia in the group stage, with matches scheduled in Toronto, Boston, and Philadelphia.

Okumagba said he is also helping as the Vice President of the African Football Supporters Association, which is led by South Africa’s Joy Chauke, with Ghana’s Osuman Kassim Awal as secretary.

He explained that the group plans to support Ghana in Canada and later travel to Mexico to support South Africa during their matches.

The first match of the tournament will be played in Mexico City, where host nation Mexico will face South Africa on June 11. Other teams in the group include the Czech Republic and South Korea.

However, Nigeria’s failure to qualify has reduced the benefits the supporters club usually gets from global fan organisations. Okumagba said the World Football Fans Alliance (WOFFA) is disappointed that Nigeria did not qualify.

He added that WOFFA has promised sponsorship support for fan leaders, which will be shared among African supporters.

But due to financial limits, the Nigerian group may not be able to travel to the United States to support other African teams like Egypt.

Despite this, the supporters say they are still committed to backing African teams at the tournament.
