‘A gathering of vagabonds,’ FFK slams ADC convention
Quick Read
According to him, “I saw an overcrowded hall filled with hot, sweaty, men & women, most of them looking worne, tired & undernourished.”
A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has mocked a factional convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which was held three days ago, describing it as chaotic and poorly organised.
In a detailed reaction, Fani-Kayode said the convention, which he claimed to have observed, was poorly conducted and held under uncomfortable conditions.
He described the venue as overcrowded and lacking basic facilities, alleging that delegates struggled with heat and poor organisation.
According to him, “I saw an overcrowded hall filled with hot, sweaty, men & women, most of them looking worne, tired & undernourished.”
He added that participants “wore orange caps & were using pamphlets & brochures to fan themselves because the building had no functional air-conditioning system.”
Fani-Kayode further claimed that tensions ran high during the meeting, alleging that delegates “sweated profusely, argued loudly amongst themselves, broke into fisticuffs.”
He also referenced a moment involving an elderly participant, saying “one of their more elderly leaders got on the stage, took the microphone and screamed ‘APC’ at the top of his voice.”
He added that the man later realised his error, claiming he had forgotten he was at an ADC event.
According to him, “pin drop silence hit the crowd,” before the individual apologised and said he needed to “take a purgative.”
Fani-Kayode also criticised another speaker at the event, quoting him as saying, “even if we field a corpse we will defeat Tinubu in 2027.”
He dismissed the statement and described the atmosphere as reckless and disorganised.
He further mocked the appearance of some attendees, saying one speaker looked “more like a tramp or a witchdoctor than a politician,” while another wore what he described as an unusual combination of clothing.
Concluding his remarks, Fani-Kayode described the gathering as a “strange gathering of confused, reckless, desperate, cantankerous, quarrelsome & in some cases senile actors.”
He added that it was more of a “street Convention of vagabonds, riggers & wanderers,” insisting that the party lacked the strength to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress.
