A loyal supporter of DR Congo’s national football team, popularly known as “Lumumba” (real name Michel Nkuka Mboladinga), has been given a brand-new jeep to appreciate his dedication. This comes after the country qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
President Félix Tshisekedi approved the reward after the players asked him to recognise Lumumba’s strong support for the team.
Lumumba became famous during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations because of his unusual way of cheering he stands completely still throughout matches. Many people see this as a silent tribute to Congo’s independence hero, Patrice Lumumba.
Since then, he has become a symbol of pride and loyalty for the country. Fans and players respect him for always showing up to support the team at matches and events.
The reward also celebrates DR Congo’s historic achievement of qualifying for the World Cup for the first time since 1974. The country has been celebrating this milestone widely.
Players reportedly told the President that Lumumba’s emotional support and constant presence helped motivate the team during their journey to qualification.
The jeep is not just a gift to him, but also a way of appreciating all fans who support the team.
Many people on social media have praised the gesture, saying it shows how important fans are in football, especially in Africa where fan support is very strong.
