A group called the Coalition of Delta North Youths has rejected the plan by former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, to run for the Delta North Senate seat.

At a press conference in Agbor, the group said Okowa should not be allowed to contest until he clears himself of the alleged N1.3 trillion corruption charges reportedly filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Leaders of the group, including Benjamin Atagama-Ofochi, Kingsley Kainehi, and Agholor Okoh, accused Okowa of controlling politics in Delta North for too long. They said the district no longer wants to remain under his influence.

They also raised concerns about the continued political involvement of the Okowa family, especially with his daughter, Marilyn Okowa Daramola, already serving in the State House of Assembly. They questioned whether both father and daughter should hold public office at the same time.

The group said their main goal is to create opportunities for younger politicians and to end what they described as political dominance in the area.

Meanwhile, Senator Ned Nwoko has announced that he will run for re-election. He also promised to support Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Nwoko made this announcement at Asaba International Airport, where many supporters gathered. He was joined by former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege and other political supporters.

Speaking to journalists, Nwoko said he wants to continue his work and build on what he has achieved since becoming senator in June 2023. He said he understands the needs of the people and is committed to helping them.

He also praised President Tinubu’s performance and said he believes in his leadership.
