Trump delays attack, extends Iran ceasefire pending negotiation outcome

President Donald Trump has announced an extension of the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, allowing more time for negotiations aimed at ending the conflict.

In a statement posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the decision followed requests from Pakistan’s leadership, including Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who urged Washington to pause military action to enable diplomatic efforts.

“Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is seriously fractured, we have been asked to hold our attack on the country of Iran until such time as their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal,” Trump stated.

The ceasefire, which was due to expire within hours, will now remain in place until Iran presents a proposal and discussions are concluded, the U.S. president said.

Despite the extension, Trump indicated that military pressure would remain, noting that he had directed U.S. forces to maintain a blockade and stay prepared for any developments.

“We will continue the blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and able,” he said.

The decision marks a shift from earlier warnings by Trump, who had signalled a possible resumption of military action if talks failed before the deadline.

The extension is expected to provide a narrow window for renewed diplomacy, as international stakeholders intensify efforts to prevent further escalation in the region.
