Former Super Eagles forward Michael Eneramo has died after collapsing during a football match in Kaduna State.
The 40-year-old ex-international reportedly slumped on the pitch while playing at Angwan Yelwa in the Television area of Kaduna on Friday.
According to reports, Eneramo had come on as a substitute in the second half when he suddenly collapsed without any physical contact, triggering panic among players and spectators.
A source at the scene said efforts were immediately made to revive him, but they proved unsuccessful. He was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Eneramo was a Nigerian professional footballer known for his strength, sharp finishing and aerial ability as a striker.
Born on November 26, 1985, he began his career in Nigeria before moving abroad, where he gained prominence in Tunisia with Espérance Sportive de Tunis, winning domestic titles and the CAF Champions League.
He later played in Turkey with Beşiktaş and Sivasspor, among other clubs. Eneramo also featured for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, earning several caps.
Before his death, he was actively involved in grassroots football development, running a football academy aimed at nurturing young talents.
The Nigeria Football Federation, through the official Super Eagles X handle, paid tribute to the late striker, sharing his image with the message: “Rest in peace Michael.”
His sudden death has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian football community, with tributes expected to pour in from former teammates, clubs, and fans.
