Police operatives in Delta have arrested four suspected armed robbers and recovered two firearms during a stop-and-search and patrol activities within Asaba, the state capital.
Delta Police Command spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe revealed this in a statement on Friday.
According to the statement, one of the suspects, Chinoso Igwemma, 28, was arrested by operatives of the Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) during on routine stop-and-search duty along Ugbolu/Asaba Road.
Edafe said the operatives were attracted by the suspect’s conduct and they decided to conduct a search on him. The search led to the discovery of a fabricated Beretta pistol on the suspect.
“The timely intervention of the operatives is assessed to have averted a potential violent crime. The suspect is currently in custody and under investigation,” Edafe said.
The Delta Police spokesperson said the three other suspects were arrested by operatives of the Command’s Crack Squad during a routine patrol in the Bonsaac Area of Asaba.

According to him, the suspects, identified as Umuadi Benjamin Chinecherem (30), Nwabueze Kelvin (28), and Okonkwo Celestine (30) were intercepted a tricycle and subjected to a thorough search
The search led to discovery of one locally made cut-to-size pistol loaded with one live cartridge.
Edafe said preliminary interrogation revealed that the suspects are linked to criminal activity and disposing of innocent citizens of their belongings. He added that efforts are ongoing to uncover their network and apprehend their other accomplices.
He also quoted Delta Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi as reaffirming the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led strategies, and proactive policing aimed at preventing crime and dismantling criminal networks in the state.
