The Nigeria Police Force in Niger State has confirmed the abduction of a senior medical practitioner, Dr Tony Eghagagara, in Borgu Local Government Area, triggering a fresh security alert in the region.

Dr Eghagagara, who serves as Head of Medical Services at General Hospital, New Bussa, was reportedly kidnapped by suspected bandits on Wednesday night at about 9:30 p.m. at his private hospital located in Wawa community.

The command’s spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday in Minna, noting that security operatives have already swung into action.

According to him, a police tactical team has been deployed to the area to track down the perpetrators and secure the safe release of the victim.

“The command has mobilised a tactical team for the rescue operation, and further developments will be communicated in due course,” Abiodun stated.

The abduction of the medical doctor has heightened concerns over the safety of healthcare workers in parts of Niger State, particularly in rural communities where cases of banditry and kidnapping have persisted.

Residents in the area have increasingly raised alarm over the vulnerability of professionals and essential service providers, warning that such incidents could disrupt access to critical healthcare services.

Authorities have, however, assured that efforts are ongoing to ensure the victim’s rescue and restore calm in the affected community.
