Southampton stunned the reigning Premier League champions early on when Azaz produced a brilliant opening goal, giving the Saints a surprise lead and briefly putting City under pressure.
However, City gradually asserted control and found their equaliser through Jérémy Doku, who finished calmly after sustained attacking pressure to bring Pep Guardiola’s side back into the contest.
The turning point came later in the game when Gonzalez struck a spectacular long-range effort, sending the ball past the goalkeeper to complete the comeback and seal victory for Manchester City.
Despite Southampton’s resilience and moments of danger, City held firm in the closing stages to secure progression to the final of the FA Cup, keeping their hopes of a domestic treble firmly alive as the season reaches its decisive stage.
The result ensures Manchester City remain on course for another major trophy, with the final now setting up a chance to add silverware to an already demanding campaign.
