Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has weighed in on the ongoing opposition summit in Ibadan, describing the gathering as a commendable initiative while raising questions about the political climate under past administrations.
Sani, in a post shared on his verified social media handle on Saturday, said the Ibadan meeting of opposition leaders reflects a functioning democratic space, but urged participants to reflect on historical realities.
“The Ibadan Opposition summit is a good talk shop. But let’s be honest with ourselves; During Buhari’s first term in office (2015-2019), Can any Governor in the North dare to host a summit of opposition leaders with the objective of ejecting him out of power?” he wrote.
His comments come amid heightened political activity in Oyo State, where key opposition figures converged for a strategic summit aimed at forging unity ahead of future electoral contests.
While acknowledging the significance of the gathering, Sani’s remarks appeared to draw a contrast between the current political environment and that of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
