From Classroom Studio to Soundcity Screens: Sheglass (Ekun Money) Steps Into the Spotlight

Sheglass

Quick Read

Sheglass said his journey into music began during his secondary school years after a friend, Samz Visual, introduced him to a studio environment—an experience that led to the recording of his first single and sparked what has become a decade-long artistic pursuit.

Nigerian rising act Akinrinola Kolawole, better known as Sheglass (Ekun Money), is steadily carving out his place in the country’s competitive music scene, turning a chance introduction to a recording studio into a growing career marked by performances, collaborations, and expanding visibility.

Sheglass said his journey into music began during his secondary school years after a friend, Samz Visual, introduced him to a studio environment—an experience that led to the recording of his first single and sparked what has become a decade-long artistic pursuit.

“I didn’t start with a big plan,” he recalled. “It was just an opportunity to try something new, and it grew from there.”

Raised in Lagos with roots in Ibadan, Oyo State, and Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, the artist credits his upbringing in areas like Command and Ajasa in Oke-Odo for shaping his street-driven sound and storytelling style. As the youngest of five children, he said those early experiences continue to influence his music and perspective.

Over the years, Sheglass has expanded beyond recording, building a platform that supports emerging talent. Through his Forreal Studio, he offers opportunities for collaborations and recording sessions, a move he describes as a way of contributing to the next generation of artists.

“I know how it feels to start with nothing,” he said. “So creating opportunities for others is important to me.”

His growing profile has seen him perform at major events, including concerts linked to rapper Reminisce, while also taking his music outside Nigeria with a club tour in South Africa. His work has gained media traction, with interviews on MTV Base and R2TV, alongside regular airplay of his videos on Soundcity.

In a recent milestone, Sheglass teamed up with Lyta on the single “Adura,” a collaboration he said helped broaden his reach. He also released visuals for “Redi,” directed by Samz Visual and produced in South Africa, with production credits going to Supliabeatz.

“It’s about growth and quality,” he said of the project. “We’re investing more into the sound and the visuals.”

Looking ahead, the artist is planning a “Soundcity on Tour” campus run, targeting major institutions including the University of Lagos (UNILAG), University of Ibadan (UI), and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. According to him, the tour is aimed at strengthening his connection with student audiences and building a stronger national fan base.

He also continues to develop Forreal Studio as a creative hub for music production and talent development, while acknowledging the support system behind his journey.

“I appreciate everyone who has stood by me,” he said, specifically mentioning Mrs. Akinola Omowunmi, Mr. Akinrinola Tunde, Mrs. Kalejaiye Omolara, and Mr. Akinrinola Akinbode for their encouragement.

With a growing fanbase known as #TeamSheglass, the artist said his focus remains on consistency, expansion, and staying true to his roots as he navigates Nigeria’s evolving music industry.
