A fresh political confrontation has erupted following a scathing attack by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga on former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, over his recent explanation for leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Onanuga, reacting to Obi’s reflective statement on the political climate, dismissed the former governor’s reasons as “illogical,” describing him as a “political nomad” and “an opportunistic fellow.”

“We told you so. The political nomad is on the move again,” Onanuga wrote, adding that Obi lacked the political strength to contend with key figures within the ADC.

“He can’t fight Atiku or Amaechi for the ticket. He pursues the easy road,” he said, in a pointed reference to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-transport minister Rotimi Amaechi.

The presidential aide further argued that Obi’s political trajectory mirrors past outcomes, suggesting that his current moves could end in failure similar to the 2023 election cycle.

“He always blames the government without doing a soul-searching of himself,” Onanuga added, while welcoming him to the unfolding 2027 political contest.

Obi had earlier defended his exit from the ADC, citing a “toxic” political environment and systemic interference, insisting his decision was not driven by personal grievances against party leaders.

The exchange signals escalating tensions within Nigeria’s political space, as key actors begin positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition realignments and internal party struggles increasingly spilling into the public domain.
