Lalong chose difficult path of peace, reconciliation as Plateau governor -Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has described Senator Simon Bako Lalong as an outstanding leader who stepped into a leadership position first as Speaker of Plateau State House of Assembly and later as Governor of Platau State from 2015 to 2023, a critical time in the annals of the state.

“Lalong’s leadership is particularly remarkable. As governor, he chose the difficult path of peace and reconciliation in that volatile North-Central state over division and disharmony,” President Tinubu said in a birthday message to the two-time governor of Plateau State and the Senator representing Plateau South in the National Assembly on Tuesday.

The President further noted in the statement by Bayo Onanuga, his spokesperson, that the tenure of Lalong as governor will always be remembered for the bold steps, he took to restore order, rebuild trust, and lay the foundation for peace when it was most uncertain.

Tinubu also hailed the contributions of the former Plateau governor to his election as president. He noted that Lalong was Director-General of Renewed Hope Presidential Campaign Council.

“Lalong’s contributions to the emergence of our administration in 2023 are also noteworthy. He demonstrated strategic depth and leadership at the highest level while serving as the Director General of the Renewed Hope Presidential Campaign, and also during his brief tenure as Minister of Labour and Employment.

“Senator Lalong remains a strong voice for his people, guided by wisdom earned through years of dedicated service in the private and public sectors.

“I pray that the years ahead bring Lalong renewed strength, good health, and even greater accomplishments,” the President said.
